Career Professionals Have Used It For Over 80 Years!

The original assessment was developed in 1927 by psychologist E.K. Strong, Jr. to help people exiting the military find suitable jobs.

The modern version is based on the typology (Holland Codes) of psychologist John L. Holland.

Dr. Holland believed that all work environments could be categorized into six general occupational themes also known as the RIASEC code. They are:

Realistic - practical, physical, hands-on, tool-oriented

Investigative - analytical, intellectual, scientific, explorative

Artistic - creative, original, independent, chaotic

Social - cooperative, supporting, helping, healing/nurturing

Enterprising - competitive environments, leadership, persuading

Conventional - detail-oriented, organizing, clerical

Dr. Holland further believed that our interests and personality preferences could be measured and matched with best-fit occupations using the Strong Interest Inventory and his RIASEC code theory.
