Estimated Family Contribution Calculator

Use an estimated family contribution calculator (or EFC calculator) to get an idea of how much financial aid you might qualify for to help with your college costs. Actually, you use it to find out how much the federal government believes you AND your family should have to pay out of your pocket to attend college.

This is formally determined by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The colleges you are considering will then use this figure (the EFC) in assembling a financial aid award for you. Your financial aid award usually totals the cost to attend a college LESS your EFC.

For example, if the cost to attend XYZ University is $20,000 and your EFC is $8,000 you should expect to receive $12,000 per year in different forms of financial aid. Know that these forms could be grants, loans or work-study aid.

Or, click here to go to the federal government's own FAFSA4CASTER to get an estimate of your EFC.
